This evocative location is the Terranera beach in Porto Azzurro, where there is a small emerald green body of water called Laghetto di Terranera, in stark contrast to the intense blue of the sea. The lake was born following the filling of sulphurous and marine water of the small mining basin where hematite, magnetite and pyrite were extracted.
The beach is instead in some places composed of sand mixed with hematite making it a shimmering black colour.
